Travelling with your pet can be easy and stress free, so long as you prepare well, stay organized and read the small print!

Pet travel regulations vary with the type of pet you have, the countries you are traveling to and from and the airline you intend to use, so it is essential to do your research in order to ensure an enjoyable experience for you and you pet.

Pet travel “Island Style” can be divided into two main categories – bringing your pet to the islands, and taking your pet overseas. These are then subdivided into short stays (14 days or less) and longer stays or permanent moves (in either direction).

The Cayman Islands Department of Agriculture governs the requirements for entry, so in the event that you are planning a vacation off island or a move to any of the 3 Cayman Islands, you will need to contact the Department for current guidelines to or from your country of residence or destination and to apply for an import/export permit.

Remember, if you are leaving your pet will require a ‘Health Certificate’ in order to travel. This will need to be endorsed by the DOA and presented to cargo on behalf of the carrying airline.
